Why do Libyan people demand Ghadafy to step down

Ghadafy and his people overthrew King Idris in 1969. Ghadafy has led Libya since  he was 27. He tried to blend the ideology of Socialist, Capitalist and Islam in Libya but unfortunately he failed. He had ruled the country for decades and finally lost legitimacy to rule following uprising across the nation. Four decades in power were too long and it was against the democratic principles. In order to maintain his power, he appointed people from his ethnic group to have important position in his regime. He did not rely on the army to maintain his power instead he appointed his immediate family and relatives to have important position in the arm-forces.

In fact Ghadafy's administration have  practiced totalitarian regime which is not applicable to the modern and democratic country. There's no ruling party as in many democratic countries  instead there's only ruling family. Thus it's like an absolute monarch in the anomaly Republic of Libya.

It can be argued that It was only a lying and utopia to claim that Ghadafy Regime could create welfare state meanwhile  many people suffered from unemployment and poverty problem. Those who benefited from Ghadafy' Regime only a handful of people particularly in the inner circle of his regime who also were very keen to comfort the dictator.
It can be speculated that there's no democracy in Libya during Ghadafy's regime. There's only corruption, collusion and nepotism practice. Ghadafy wanted to rule Libya for the rest of his life. Ghadafy has not only lost legitimacy to rule since majority of his people demanded him to step down but he has also lost charisma and shame.

Ghadafy manipulated  when he said that majority of his people still loved him and wanted to die to protect and defend his position. Furthermore, it was ridiculous when Ghadafy claimed that Alqaedah orchestrated the uprising. He also daydreamed when he speculated that foreign intervention triggered the uprising.

As a matter of fact the recent uprising in Libya was inspired by the political turmoil in the neighboring countries of Egypt and Tunis. Furthermore, people of Libya have suffered from repressive act and dictatorship of the Regime for the last four decades that has led to the uprising. Ghadafy's Regime responses the protesters with crackdown supported by  militia and arm forces. The incident has led to the crime against humanity and serious violation of  human rights.
